Just a few reminders about Halloween at Curie Elementary:

Costumes are allowed, but it IS first and foremost a school day.  If you decide to send your child in a costume, it should be a costume that can be kept on ALL day and will NOT interfere with your child’s learning.  Please consider the following:

  • Costumes should be comfortable, not something that will need to be removed so that school work can be done.
  • No props such as guns, knives, swords, brooms, etc.  These are inappropriate for school and/or
  • No masks.  Faces could be minimally painted, if necessary, for the effect sought, but such paint or makeup must not be irritating or disruptive for the student.
  • No extremely messy makeup should be used.  Nothing that could come off on hands, desks, papers,

Thank you for your help in making this a fun and safe day for our students.

Traffic Circle Help Needed!!

trafficsafetyWe are asking every family this year to volunteer at least one time for the morning traffic circle.

Sign-Ups are now posted on our current events page at http://www.curiepta.org/volunteer or go directly to the Volunteer Spot Traffic Circle sign-up.

We have asked you to pick a morning that would usually work best for you.  If we get enough sign-ups we will split them up further by month, i.e. you may do every Monday in September and October, then someone else will do every Monday in November and December.

Help the students get safely out of their cars in the morning and guide them to follow the footprints in to the school. Please plan to be ready to help no later than 7:30 a.m. and expect to stay until 8:00 a.m. This is always our most difficult volunteer spot to fill but is a very simple and rewarding job, with very little time required.

After School Program Flyers On-line

Curie PTA is trying something new this year.  In an effort to save paper and copying costs we have moved to an on-line take home flyer service called Peachjar.

Rather than receiving flyers about the various after school programs offered at Curie and in the community in your child’s backpack, now you can view them all on-line, via email and on your smart phone.

From Curiepta.org just click the Peachjar logo on our homepage (right hand column under the school information box) and you can view all the flyers available.  You will also receive emails when new flyers are distributed.

Currently the following programs have flyers on our Peachjar site:

Heartlight Dance Class
Tiny Pros Soccer
TGA Junior Golf
My Tutor Now
Master Your Sports
Chess Class
University Community Library
San Diego Children’s Choir

Just click here to see all the flyers.

Curie is Going Green!

Dear Curie Community,

San Diego Unified School District has adopted Peachjar to manage and distribute e-flyers to parents. To ensure this school-to-home communication is highly effective, the district office has provided Peachjar with a complete list of email addresses for parents at Curie Elementary School and thus, Peachjar will begin delivering e-flyers to your school community in the next few days.

Each year, our school will save approximately 2-3 tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars. On top of that, paperless delivery of school flyers removes a significant administrative burden from teachers, office staff, and volunteers. Peachjar manages this innovative service at no cost to parents, parent groups, schools, teachers, and staff. Plus, Peachjar gives schools part of the proceeds it collects from enrichment providers that post flyers.School-approved e-flyers will keep you informed about upcoming school activities, programs, and events. And our children’s backpacks will be a little bit lighter!

You can find the new PEACHJAR logo on the front page of our website www.curiepta.org. If you have not already registered with Peachjar, you will receive a welcome email from them that includes a username and password. To ensure smooth delivery of this communication, please add school@peachjar.com to your email contacts. Thank you for helping us save time, money, and lots of trees!
