Thank You From the 2022-2023 Curie PTA!

On behalf of the Curie PTA Executive Board, thank you for another year of your support. Because of your participation, we were able to enrich the experience of our students in the following ways:

  • 100% funding for art, music, & PE consultants

  • Host multiple assemblies, including: Literature Comes to Life, Brock Edwards Magic Extravaganza, & Ms. Smarty Plants.

  • Put on an epic Red Ribbon Week, complete with a helicopter & firetruck visit, a performance by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band from Miramar, & an exciting demonstration by Wheels Squared BMX!

  • Fund Curie clubs such as: Science Committee & Garden Club.

  • Purchase new playground equipment for Curie (Gaga Pit, 9-Square in the Air, new wall ball courts, Triple Shoot Playground Basketball systems, & more!).

  • Provide teachers with discretionary stipends so they could plan field trips, purchase educational materials, & purchase classroom items as needed throughout the year.

  • Organize community & educational events such as the Multicultural Fair, Art & Music Showcase, Curie Community Fair, & Family Lunches.

None of this can happen without the volunteerism & monetary support of this community; we are so grateful. Keep reading for ways to get involved next year - planning is already underway! With Gratitude, The 2022-2023 Executive Board (Sara Wheeland, Jeaneé Pérez, Shirley Miranda, Candi Russell, Cindy Schairer, Jessie Hardy, Lori Lents, Susan Cellitti, Sheng-Wei Chang, Kerri Bertrand, Mia Sneag, Ashley Crane, Nicole Ogden, Denise Daglio, & Principal Duren)

5th Grade Promotion

Wednesday, June 14 from 11 AM to 12 PM Curie Auditorium

Our promotion committee, 5th Grade teachers, & students have been working hard to prepare for this special day. 5th Grade families are allowed 4 guests for the ceremony. There will be photo opportunities after the ceremony. Congratulations to our promoting 5th Graders. We are so proud of you & can't wait to celebrate your achievement!

A Look Back at Last Week ~Spirit Week, Curie Cup, Family Lunch~

Last week, the entire student body participated in the Curie Cup! It was a week-long event that emphasized school spirit & camaraderie. Students played active games & sports challenges & had a chance to earn points for their class. The following classes earned the most points in their grade:

  • TK/K: Mrs. Walker

  • 1st: Mrs. Sipe

  • 2nd: Mrs. Bingman

  • 3rd: Ms. LaStella

  • 4th: Mrs. Selleck

  • 5th: Mrs. Daglio

The 5th graders also won the 50 yard dash & relay race against the parents & teachers! Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help & to Coach A & Coach O for helping to make this happen. We look forward to seeing you all at the Curie Cup next year!

Curie PTA is Already Planning for the 2023-2024 School Year!

The incoming 2023-2024 Executive Board is eager to plan another excellent school year for our students & we'll need your help! We'd like to start forming committees & gauging interest in certain events. If you are curious about how you could participate as a volunteer, head to our website to see where you fit in, based on your interests & amount of time you are able to commit. There really is something for everyone! If you have a general question about volunteering, send an email to Lori at membership@curiepta.org & she'll point you in the right direction. We are also still looking to fill the following PTA Executive Board positions for next year.

  • VP Event Coordinator (Main duty is to help recruit & coordinate volunteers for events happening on campus, and plan & organize the annual Teacher & Staff Appreciation luncheon. It's helpful to be able to periodically attend in person events on campus.)

  • Corresponding Secretary (Main duty is crafting & distributing weekly newsletter & helping to manage socials. Low in-person time commitment.)

If you have any interest in learning more about the open board positions, please email Nicole at: parliamentarian@curiepta.org.

Wishing you a safe and happy summer break!

  • As always, past newsletters can be found on our website!

Current Opportunities:

  • Our librarian, Stephanie Perea is looking for 3-4 volunteers to help her organize the library. She is specifically looking for damaged books & to make sure all books are checked back in. This may take 1-2 days, depending on volunteer interest & commitment. Ms. Perea is on campus every Wednesday until 4 PM. If you are interested, she can review tasks with you on a Wednesday & then you are free to come back & organize another day according to your schedule. Please contact Ms. Perea with questions & interest at sperea@sandi.net.

  • Curie is looking for volunteers for lunch duty; email Penny in the front office at pcavanagh@sandi.net.
